The goals of TIAN are

Project developers expect that implementing this model will build the capacity of states' adult education agencies to support standards-based innovative math instruction for adults.

Teachers participating in the project

  • attend three two-day institutes where they do mathematics themselves
  • teach lessons on data and algebra that they adapt from the EMPower materials developed by TERC and from their own authentic materials
  • develop two Work Samples documenting their planning and instruction
  • meet four times with other teachers in their regions to share their experiences and their student work.
